If we're friends on facebook or twitter then you already know the big news...we're having a BOY!! Oh internet, I know things will all work out and that I will be just fine...but boy oh boy (pun intended) will this be a year of learning for me!  Let me tell you dear friends, I grew up in a house with 3 girls, 1 girl siamese cat, and 1 girl chihuahua....so aside from my husband, I don't know much about boys and their testosterone.  But what I can tell you is this: my heart has been overflowing with joy over bringing a little boy into the world soon and I am oh so grateful that the Good Lord has given us this sweet gift!  Many friends and family have asked me about Ryan's reaction to hearing we are having a boy, and let me just tell you...it was like his whole body was smiling, he was thrilled!

So, my lovely blog readers and fellow moms....maybe you can help me.  If you have any advice, stories, or book recommendations about raising boys, please share!  Leave a comment below or feel free to send me an email, I really do value other moms experience and input.  Also, I'm having a terrible time trying to decorate a little boys room....the problem?  I'm way too girly!  Each time I go to look at a baby boy section at a store or website, I end up in the girl section looking at things for Riley!  So if anyone has any good links for boy related attire/decor, please share!

One last thing before I sign off for the night...a quick update about my pregnancy.  I'm officially 23 weeks and my due date has been moved up to May.  The morning sickness during this pregnancy was pretty much non-existent (as opposed to Riley where I was sick nearly everyday) and my appetite is like that of a teenage boy...I'm always hungry (that should have been my first clue it was a boy)!  Truth be told, I really like being pregnant.  Like many other pregnant women I'm sure, I have my moments where I am a complete emotional wreck....but for the most part, I think pregnancy is a really beautiful experience.

Speaking of all this boy talk, here is one of my favorite little guys to photograph...been photographing him since he was a newborn (and his mama too when she was pregnant with him :)

Kelli , I have said it before (a few times) but I will say it again – I am so so sooo excited for you! Having one of each seems like a dream come true! I wish I could give some boy advise, but I am just a clueless new mom lol. I know you will do an amazing job though! As far as the decorating goes, maybe sports? I know my hubby wants to do all Lakers and Chargers theme if we have a boy …. Not exactly my cup of tea, but whatever , if he really wants it – so be it! ;) so maybe ask Ryan what he thinks!? Xoxo!

Congratulations Kelli! Wonderful news. You are very lucky. I don't have children but lots of nieces and nephews. You will learn anything you need to know as you go along. Baby boys are just the same as girls. Just enjoy. They are so darn cute as you know from your photo sessions. As for decorating, any kind of an animal theme is always cute. Save all the sports stuff for later. Again, congratulations.

So happy for you guys! I hear you on the what to do with a boy thing. I felt the same way having been 1 of 3 girls. Rest assured, you will figure it out. There is no magic to it. FYI: Girls use their words (many, many words) and boys use their noises...vrooommmmm. It is a day, by day journey. Mine will be 18 and graduating soon! Time really does fly! Enjoy these next few months alone with Riley! :)

Oh Kelli!! I grew up in a house full of girls, too. And now, I have a house full of boys.....what a different world. But, I will tell you, I ABSOLUTELY LOVE having my boys. They are fun, adventurous (sometimes wreckless and rude), independent, soft hearted and tough skinned. And, they are all SO different. You are going to love it....what a wonderful blessing! You'll have the best of both worlds!

congratulations on a little man kelli!
i honestly never thought i wanted a son for myself but knew that i would want one for my husband but its amazing how he has totally captured my heart.
he is so very different from my daughter. so full of energy and so so entertaining.
and so so very cute :)
i dont think you should parent differently for a boy. i still want my guy to be as sweet and loving as his sister.
as far as decorating goes.... his baby room was decorated in creams and different shades of light blue. it was all circles and squares and patterns. no animals or robots or sports.
for his big boy room its going to be a red white and blue and dark wood all american theme.
boys can be just as fun shopping for as girls too :)
we have tons of adorable little funky hoodies and bright colored chucks.
and honestly to see a man and his son just melts my heart.

We will have to swap Alex's old boy stuff for Riley's old girl stuff for our new baby girl.

Awww

For decorating, I had the hardes time. I found I liked things labeled as "gender neutral" better for a boy. So that's what I did- gender neutral stuff with a little light blue on the walls. Voila- boy room! There is plenty of time for BOY boy stuff later, I thought.

I too was shocked to find out I was gonna have a boy. I'm from an all-girl household ad never imagined myself as a boy-mama! Later though, I started to realize that my relationship with my son could be beautifully uncomplicated (as a mother). I find that mom/daughter relationships are special- but specially complex. Boys, there's never competition betwee you. Never any need to escape mom. Mom can be the queen for a long time (okay, at least until he starts dating seriously! ha!) And really, what's more precious than my little boy mimicking his dada? Melts my heart every day.

Oh Kelli, I was in the same boat as you! Only have a sister, spent all of our time with our mom and grandma, all girl cousins except two, who we tortured by making them play with us girls. So when I found out we were having a boy, it was an adjustment. Now, at 39 weeks, I can't IMAGINE having a girl! I am really looking forward to a mommy's boy and he can be rough and tumbly with the dog! Check out my nursery pics on my blog. Maybe the white furniture is a little girly but I think it is boy-ish enough for now.

Have you ever thought about a Superman room? Or just the S for Super Seeley boy! But there are always trucks and trains, teddy bears are fine, football and sports , boats and sailboats, there are neutral things like baby mummpets or toys or sand pails and rainbows, cowboys is cute too (Since Ryan is a big John Wayne fan! Another cute neutral is clouds and sky and nature. I know you will find something adorable. The pictures of Riley are sooo cute. She melts my heart-do you think she would like to make some more valentines and Valentine cookies this Saturday with her Grandma Linda?
